 Misconceptions of Effective Mentoring

Having led mentoring programs as a secondary school administrator for 22 years, Dr. Elise Gruber will be sharing three misconceptions of the mentoring process in this webinar. In addition to examining effective strategies for mentoring teachers, the focus of this 45 minute (with 15 minutes for questions) presentation will be on why mentoring is not only for teachers new to teaching, why it needs to take place for longer than the traditional year and why it should include teams of people rather than just the mentee and mentor.

Mentoring – Without Having to Rearrange the Letters

In this presentation Beryl will explain that the rearrangement of the letters in the word mentor could spell “Torment”. 🙂  She will address the qualities and characteristics of good and exceptional mentors, undesirable mentor characteristics, the definition of mentor, the historical background of mentorship, understanding that educators are learners just as students are learners, the things adult learners need to know and the pitfalls if they are not taught those things, the correlation between mentorship and teacher retention, the mentorship program in Kansas, and what mentorees have shared about their mentoring experiences – both positive and negative.
