Addressing Transgender Students through an Interactive Process

Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM CST

Stephen M. McLoughlin, Attorney with Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo in Cerritos, CA will present.

This webinar will discuss a practical, comprehensive process to comply with federal and state law regarding transgender students. Specifically, this interactive process is designed to help ensure that transgender students receive an education free from discrimination while working with the broader school community to address related and potentially competing concerns and interests. The protections afforded to transgender students under federal and state law is a rapidly evolving area that deserves considerable attention to ensure that all students receive an education free from discrimination. This webinar will help school districts keep up with, and gain a deeper understanding of, what is required to comply with the law and avoid any potential legal issues. School districts must develop “real world,” practical solutions that comply with the spirit of the law, meet the needs of their transgender students, and identify opportunities to address related concerns that may be raised by some who may disagree with the school district’s policies in a manner that does not impact the rights of transgender students. The webinar will provide an overview of what an “interactive process” should include meeting the needs and interests of transgender students that, in the end, assists school districts with complying with the law and creating a safe learning environment for all students.

Creating Thriving Schools During a Teacher Shortage

Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM CST

Joni Booth and Shane McFeely with Gallup in Omaha, NE will present.

Students’ experiences and achievements in school hinge on the daily learning interactions they have with their teachers. Unfortunately, the shortage of teachers in America has created scenarios where districts struggle to find and keep the most talented, engaged and qualified teachers — hindering students’ opportunities to get a high-quality education and increase their achievements. But school districts can gain an edge in recruiting and retaining talented teachers that empower students to reach their goals.

Join this webinar to gain valuable insights into the economics of the teacher shortage, confidence in the labor market and the costs of employee turnover. Also discover how focusing on teacher engagement, understanding why teachers are leaving their district and knowing how to effectively recruit talented teachers — especially millennials — can give your district an advantage in overcoming the challenges of the teacher shortage.
