Leah Zavala

Dr. Leah Zavala serves as the Teach Denton Coordinator for Denton Independent School District in Denton, Texas. Teach Denton is the district’s innovative “Grow Your Own” program which aims to find teaching talent in current students and, through mentorship and support, guide them to future positions in the educator pipeline within the district upon their college graduation.
Previously, Dr. Zavala taught for ten years at the high school level teaching a variety of Family and Consumer Science classes, with the last six years solely teaching the Education and Training Internship for 11th and 12th grade students.
Dr. Zavala earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas State University in 2012, her master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in 2020, and her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University in 2024. She currently resides in Denton, Texas with her husband, Javier Zavala.
