Collaboratively Designing a New Employee Induction Plan for Career and Technical Educators
Tuesday, May 13 | 11:00am - 12:00pm CST
Presented by Tracy Kram, Human Resources Manager/Operations Coordinator/JOC Board Secretary with Upper Bucks County Technical School in Perkasie, PA.
This eHCLE project demonstrates that a collaborative team can design a new employee induction plan for career and technical teachers aimed at retaining newly hired teachers by providing better support during their first two years. This presentation outlines the process of developing a new induction plan for professional instructors. It examines the challenges faced by new instructors, particularly those transitioning from industry to teaching, as well as the outdated nature of the existing induction plan. The project shifted from focusing solely on career pathways to improving the induction process to support new teachers better.
Key highlights include:
- The hiring process for professional instructors and the requirements for certification
- Research findings on career pathways and continuing education needs
- Issues with the previous 2013 induction plan and reasons for instructor turnover
- The development of a new, collaborative induction plan that integrates feedback from educators, mentors, and external consultants
- Implementation timeline and future steps for refining the plan
The presentation also emphasizes the importance of collaboration, continuous improvement, and support of newly hired instructors.
This webinar is being presented as a part of the eHCLE program and is FREE for members and nonmembers.
Qualifies for 1 hour of continued education credit through SHRM, HRCI & pHCLE.
