FLSA Compliance in K-12 School Districts: Navigating Pay for Substitutes, Coaches, Extra Duty and Hourly Employees
Tuesday, November 12 | 1:00pm - 2:00pm CST
Presented by Rob Tibbs, K-12 Principal with Red Rover.
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) sets federal rules for wages and overtime and shapes how K-12 school districts across the U.S. manage their workforce. It distinguishes between exempt and non-exempt employees, establishing standards for minimum wage, overtime pay, and recordkeeping. In regard to K-12, this impacts a range of staff – from substitutes and coaches to extra-duty personnel. Many school districts face compliance challenges including determining whether roles like coaches and substitute teachers qualify for overtime or are exempt, and ensuring proper compensation for additional hours worked beyond regular duties.
During this webinar, attendees will learn how to:
- Understand Employee Classification: Reminders on how to accurately classify substitutes, coaches, and other staff as exempt or non-exempt under FLSA guidelines to ensure proper compensation and avoid compliance issues.
- Navigate Extra Duty and Overtime Pay: Learn best practices for managing extra-duty assignments and overtime, ensuring that all staff are fairly compensated for additional hours worked in line with FLSA regulations.
- Simplify Annualized Pay for Hourly Employees: Gain insights into handling annualized pay for hourly staff with fluctuating schedules, making sure wages comply with FLSA's minimum wage and overtime standards.
